The Swiss pyramid on Lake Thun

The Niesen is a mountain made of slate. Its history began around 70 million years ago, when slate layers were deposited at the bottom of the primeval Mediterranean. Due to the folding of the Alps, the Niesen was transported from the south to its present location.

At 2970 metres, surrounded by over 200 peaks, the Piz Gloria sits enthroned on the Schilthorn. The 360° panorama extends from the Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau across the Bernese and Valais Alps to Lake Thun, the Central Plateau and the Jura massif. On a clear day, you can even see the Black Forest and Mont Blanc.
