Sustainability - Swisstainable

Awareness of the need to use our planet's ecological, social and economic resources responsibly is constantly increasing. Sustainability is an issue that St. Beatus Caves is addressing and incorporating into the organisation in the best possible way. Find out here which dimensions and topics our company is focussing on.

Preservation of nature

Ecological sustainability

The St. Beatus Caves are located in the middle of a unique natural landscape on Lake Thun in the Bernese Oberland. The protection of nature is very important to us:

  • Mobility: We encourage our guests to travel by public transport. Thanks to the good connections to the transport network, travelling to the St. Beatus Caves is climate-friendly.
  • Energy efficiency: The lighting in the St. Beatus Caves and in the park area uses energy-saving LED technology, which minimises energy consumption.
  • Biodiversity: The area surrounding the St. Beatus Caves provides a habitat for numerous plant and animal species. We actively protect and promote biodiversity through targeted measures.
  • Water as the basis of life: In cooperation with "Viva con Agua", we raise awareness of the sustainable use of water among our guests.
  • Waste and disposal: With our efficient waste separation system, we reduce our environmental impact by conserving resources and facilitating recycling. In this way, we actively contribute to environmental protection.
  • Food waste: Regional and seasonal ingredients are freshly processed in the restaurant. Measures to reduce food waste are firmly established. We actively offer our guests the opportunity to take away any food they have not eaten in environmentally friendly packaging.
Fairness and cohesion

Social sustainability

The social commitment of the St. Beatus Caves is based on respect and solidarity with one another:

  • Justice and equality: All employees enjoy fair working conditions regardless of origin, gender or age.
  • Attractive working conditions: Wages in line with industry standards, above-average social benefits and flexible working time models ensure a high level of employee satisfaction.
  • Solidarity in the workplace: respectful interaction and an open corporate culture strengthen the well-being and motivation of employees.
Responsibility for the future

Economic sustainability

Long-term thinking characterises the economic decisions of St. Beatus Caves:

  • Regional circular economy: Thanks to our close cooperation with local producers and craft businesses, the added value remains in the region.
  • Efficient utilisation of resources: Natural, human and financial resources are used in a targeted manner to ensure sustainable development.
  • Investing in the future: St. Beatus Caves will continue to develop as an attractive excursion destination in the long term through continuous innovation and sustainable growth.

With this sustainability strategy, St. Beatus Caves actively contributes to the protection of the environment, the well-being of society and economic stability - for present and future generations.
