Tip: Nature park surroundings
The St. Beatus Caves are nestled in an unspoilt natural landscape on Lake Thun. The surrounding area invites you to linger. With barbecue areas, viewpoints and the idyllic forest. Plan enough time to enjoy the surroundings.
Waterfall at the cave entrance
The experience begins even before you reach the cave: the Beatus waterfall plunges into the depths right next to the entrance, fed by the underground cave stream that flows through the entire cave system.
On the footpath from the car park to the cave entrance, you cross the thundering waterfall on bridges and footbridges. When it rains or the snow melts, the natural spectacle is particularly impressive: the masses of water swell and the double waterfall shows its full force.
The ascent from the car park to the cave entrance takes about 5 to 10 minutes and leads along a well-maintained, tarmac path. However, we recommend sturdy footwear as the path near the waterfall can be wet.
Weather on Lake Thun
The cave is a constant 8-10 °C all year round with around 95% humidity, regardless of the weather outside. The St. Beatus Caves are therefore the perfect bad-weather alternative and a cool retreat on hot summer days.
The Beatus waterfall is particularly impressive. The masses of water swell up and the natural spectacle at the cave entrance is spectacular. Rain jacket and sturdy footwear recommended for the ascent.
Enjoy the restaurant terrace with panoramic views of Lake Thun and the Bernese Alps. Combination of cave + nature park + restaurant for a perfect day out.
