From Lake Thun to the St. Beatus Caves

Start in Interlaken West and hike along Lake Thun through the Weissenau nature reserve to Sundlauenen. From there, the path leads up to the St. Beatus Caves. Along the way, quiet lakeside paths, beautiful bathing spots, historical sights, and impressive nature await you.

With a length of around 8.5 km and a hiking time of about 2 hours 20 minutes, the tour is ideal for a varied half-day excursion.

The Route to the Cave

Interlaken West – Weissenau – Neuhaus – Sundlauenen – St. Beatus Caves

The hike begins at Interlaken West railway station and leads along the shipping canal to the Weissenau castle ruins. Afterwards, you hike through the nature reserve to Neuhaus and further on to Sundlauenen. After crossing the Sundbach stream, the trail climbs through the forest up to the St. Beatus Caves.
